Please note that all the information presented below is based on many years of experience in the interaction of various antivirus software and the Algorithmic learning platform.

If you have one of the antivirus software listed below installed on your PC, then you may run into some serious problems both in online room on video platform (sound / video / screen sharing does not work) and on the platform itself (infinite loading of the platform page, log in errors, loading tasks issues):

  • Avast Free Antivirus

  • McAfee® Total Protection

  • Comodo Internet Security

  • 360 Total Security

  • Norton AntiVirus

  • Kaspersky Free/Kaspersky total security

  • AVG AntiVirus Free

  • Avira Free Security Suite

  • Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition

  • Panda Free Antivirus

We strongly recommend to disable the antivirus software during the lesson, or try adding the sites https://learn.alg.academy/online and https://learn.alg.academy/ to the antivirus exclusions list.

There are frequent cases when disabling the antivirus software does not bring any result, as it continues to work in the background. It's typical of free antivirus software versions.

In this case, it is recommended to completely remove the antivirus program from the system.

ATTENTION❗️

Please note that Algoritmika technical support team does not remove or configure antivirus software via a remote connection for the following reasons:

  • most antiviruses work in such a way that they block any actions done during a remote connection;

  • technical support team members cannot take responsibility for interfering with your PC system, they can only give the necessary advice on how to fix technical issues.

How to turn off and disable the antivirus software?

The best way to disable antivirus is through the task manager. Because otherwise, the antivirus program will continue to run in the background.

To do that :

  • press the keyboard shortcut «Ctrl + Alt + Delete» and find your antivirus in the Task Manager list;

  • right-click on the needed process and select "End task";

  • in the appeared warning window confirm disabling antivirus software.

    On the screenshot below you can see the Avast Antivirus on the Task Manager running programs list.

If you are not ready to disable the antivirus system working in the background completely, or it can not be applied to your antivirus, then disable it in the system tray.

To do that:

  • open the system tray: in the lower right corner on the quick launch panel left click on the arrow next to the clock;

  • find your antivirus icon and right-click on it;

  • choose to disable antivirus (the wording depends on which antivirus you are using).
    Below there is the example for Avast antivirus software:

Some antiviruses, such as Kaspersky, can install their extensions into the Google Chrome browser.

In this case, you need to remove this extension from your browser.
The extensions are located in the upper right corner of the browser panel:

To go to the Extensions settings, click on the link: chrome://extensions/
To delete the necessary extension, click «Remove».

An alternative recommended solution is to create another account on the PC without antivirus programs and additional software.

How to do that:

  1. On Windows

  2. On MacOS

  3. On Linux

Why Zoom/Skype are working correctly with turned on antivirus software?

Skype, Zoom and other services that work as separate applications are perceived by antiviruses as safe and trusted. ❗️ In the browser antiviruses filter any traffic.

Our online platform Jitsi works directly from the browser, so many antivirus programs block many of the functions necessary for the normal operation of the online room. The online room might not even load completely with antivirus software enabled.

If your PC is updated to Windows 10, then you do not need an additional antivirus software, since you are reliably protected by the built-in Defender antivirus, which does not interfere with the video platform.

Antivirus software and Windows 10

If you have a Windows 10 operating system installed on your PC, then you do not need to have an extra antivirus to fully protect your computer.

Built-in Windows Defender Antivirus has undergone significant improvements in this version of the operating system. This protection tool is a full-fledged antivirus complex that ensures computer security at an acceptable level.

It has been noted that Windows Defender never interfered with the Algoritmika's platform or online rooms.

How can I use the Internet without any antivirus software?

During online classes, you may only need:

  • Jitsi online platform;

  • Algorithmics learning platform;

  • Algorithmics files on your Google Drive account;

  • The services and sites tested by our Methodology Team.

These are the reliable resources that do not contain malicious files and you can use them without risk on your PC without antivirus software.

The more types of antivirus software are installed on PC, the worse they protect your computer

There is a misconception that the more antiviruses you have installed on your PC, the better protection of your PC. When you install several antiviruses on your PC at once, you will get the opposite effect - the more antivirus programs you install on the system, the less effective protection you will get.

There are some serious reasons not to install multiple antiviruses on the same computer:

  • Performance issues

When antiviruses are protecting and scanning a computer, they must use system resources to complete their tasks. The more antiviruses are added to the system, the more system memory they consume to scan all potential threats. As a result, the computer may run out of memory to perform important system tasks, resulting in poor performance.

  • The battle for the system

To make matters worse, you will notice that antiviruses will clash with each other while protecting your system. If you install two or more antiviruses that will simultaneously monitor all risk zones, this will lead to conflicts within your system.

  • The conflict between antiviruses

When the antivirus completes its task, it assumes that it is the only defender of the system. Therefore, it can regard the files of the second antivirus as malware.
At best, you will face the false «virus» alarms, and at worst - the instability of the system and the damage of the critical files.
